SKU Code: G101224/2

This MWC model with a U.S pattern 12/24 hour dial format is directly descended from the G10 watches which we produced back in the 1980s, it retains the popular battery hatch which has been discarded by most other manufacturers of general service watches. The battery hatch was originally fitted because in the early days of quartz watches batteries only lasted around a year on average but with the battery on this watch now lasting around 5 years it is really just a design detail although it remains very popular for historical reasons.

This watch also benefits from the use of Luminova for improved nighttime visibility. Luminova operates like a light battery. After sufficient activation by sunlight or artificial light, the dial will glow in the dark until the luminosity gradually diminishes although larger markings are often visible for the whole night. This activation and subsequent light emission process can be repeated again and again, and the material does not suffer any aging which was previously a problem in the days of tritium paint. The other advantage is that Luminova pigments are totally free of radioactivity.

The MWC G10 is one of the companies most tried and tested G10 models and in its earlier variants has been in service for around 40 years. A large number of serving military personnel have evaluated this well-established model over lengthly periods in various deployments and feedback is always been consistently very positive regardless of the specific variant in the range which has been chosen.  Factors which greatly contribute to this watches durability are the screw-down locking crown which provides a high degree of protection when compared to watches with more vulnerable push-in crowns and the sapphire crystal which is both shatter and scratch resistant.

The back of the case bears various contract markings and the watch is supplied with two current pattern 20mm NATO webbing straps in both black and grey variants.

* A lot of people ask us what are the benefits of sapphire crystal over a standard mineral crystal? The answer is that synthetic sapphire is by far the best material for watch crystals because it is very strong and also shatter and scratch-resistant, these characteristics make it very appealing to military and security personnel, police officers and people who lead active outdoor lifestyles, these groups account for over 70% of our customers. To get things into perspective we find that when clients have accidents with watches resulting in a cracked crystal over 90% usually watches with mineral glass crystals, even factoring in that we use hardened mineral crystals they still do not come close to sapphire for durability under adverse conditions. The reason that sapphire crystals are so strong is that after the sapphire glass is manufactured it is also heat-treated to remove its internal stresses—which can cause weakness—it is then made into the watch crystals and two layers of anti-reflective coating are applied, interestingly sapphire crystal is now used on the latest iPhone. Of course, sapphire crystal comes at a price, hence you find that it's normally only fitted to higher-end watches.
